Pierce Brosnan and his wife Keely will be inducted into the Environmental Hall of Fame on November 20th.

The Brosnans have contributed over $1,000,000,000 to a wide variety of environmental causes, which doesn't necessarily make them better than us, just richer (and a tad prettier).

When Brosnan accepts whatever carbonless accolades they give him I hope he remembers those of us that made such large donations possible - the fans. I used to love "Remington Steele," enjoyed his Bond work and have a copy of The Thomas Crown Affair and the soundtrack.

Wow, I suddenly feel slighted that I'm not being inducted as well. Yeah, I'm jealous (which is okay, because it's green).

That said, the Brosnans obviously deserve it and they aren't alone. They will be joined by the following inductees:

  • American Solar Energy Society (ASES), Bradley Collins, Executive Director
  • American Wind Energy Association (AWEA), Randall Swisher, Exec. Dr.
  • Center for Neighborhood Technology (CNT), Leader in Urban Sustainability
  • Chicago Center for Green Technology (CCGT), Green Building Center
  • Chicago Climate Action Plan (CCAP), 80% Carbon Emissions Reduction by 2050
  • Chicago Department of Environment, Suzanne Malec-McKenna, Commissioner
  • Chicago Park District, Timothy J. Mitchell, Superintendent and CEO
  • Chicago Public Schools, Suzanne Carlson, Environmental Program Manager
  • City of Naperville Renewable Energy, 8.5% Residential Participation to Date
  • Conscious Choice, Chicago's Sustainable Living Magazine for 20 Years
  • CTA, 1.6 Million Daily Rides Reduce Chicago's Carbon Emissions
  • Environment Illinois, Brian Granahan, Environmental Advocacy
  • Faith in Place, Rev Clare Butterfield, 400 Green Church Congregational Partners
  • Geothermal Energy Association (GEA), Karl Gawell, Executive Director
  • GreenPower, Michael Spitzauer, Converting Biomass into Diesel Fuel
  • Hunter Lovins, Sustainable and Profitable Natural Capitalism Solutions
  • I-Go Car Sharing, Non-Profit Car Sharing Services
  • Illinois PIRG (IPIRG), Brian Imus, Public Transportation Advocacy
  • Illinois Renewable Energy Association (IREA), Green Business Network
  • Illinois Renewable Portfolio Strategy, 15% Renewable Energy by 2020

  • Kimpton Hotels, USA's Greenest Hotel Chain
  • Lt Governor Pat Quinn, Chairman, IL Green Government Coordinating Council
  • Mark Victor Hansen, Inspiration for the Environmental Hall of Fame
  • Merchandise Mart, World's Largest Green Building, Silver LEED Rating
  • Mike Nicklas, Innovative Design for Sustainable Schools
  • Museum of Science and Industry, Smart Home, Chicago's Greenest Home
  • Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum, Educating About Nature and the Environment
  • Pierce Brosnan and Keely Shaye Brosnan, Dedicated Environmental Activists
  • Sadhu Johnston, Chief Environmental Officer, Mayor's Office, City of Chicago
  • ShoreBank, Pioneering and Premiere Green Bank, Since 1973
  • Sierra Club, America's Oldest and Largest Environmental Organization
  • Tim McNeil, Green Museum Exhibitions, Co-Designer of NRDC Action Center

Good company and good job. Congratulations to all of the inductees and please keep doing that voodoo you do (including any possible Remington Steele movies)!

Sure, John F. Kennedy delivered a great many powerful speeches throughout the course of his natural life, but now the he's come back from the dead, his ability to drive home a challenging yet engaging message to the nation has reached new levels. Just in time for Halloween, JFK is back, and his undead mind is focused on pushing Greenpeace's new renewable Energy [R]evolution.

This zombie hasn't come back to threaten us with his lust for human flesh. Instead, Zombie JFK uses the power of persuasion, fear, and shame to get his point across. Saying things like: "Will we look into the eyes of our children and tell them: we had the opportunity, but lacked the courage." Wow, Zombie JFK, you sure know how to lay down a serious guilt trip.

I wonder if anyone finds these reanimated celebrity commercials very persuasive? Personally, I can't get over how creepy it is to have some copywriter cramming words into JFK's mouth. Actually, it seems a bit disingenuous, like the goal is to make people think JFK was so ahead of his time, that he was giving speeches on climate change back in the 60s.

What do you think? Do you like what Greenpeace is doing here?

Better Homes and Gardens Danny Seo was on CBS with some hints and tricks for a greener Halloween. Some of the ideas - buying LED Halloween lights - were just another reason to spend money but other ideas were pretty cute.

Bats from egg cartons, grinding up extra hard candies into powder for your coffee and painting rocks with glow-in-the-dark nontoxic paint that charges up by the sun were all good ideas that didn't encourage you to buy tons of stuff.

What are you doing that is extra green this year for Halloween? I'll be out of town but I plan to snag any leftover pumpkins come Sunday and roast the seeds and get them ready to put in the freezer. I've recently discovered a great pumpkin chocolate chip cookie recipe!

Angelina Jolie is a sexy mother natureTraditional Halloween costumes can be really wasteful, not to mention expensive. And sometimes you want your outfit to carry a message about how you feel about the environment.

If you're scrambling for a last minute costume that displays your green bona fides, there are a few go-to-costumes we can suggest.

Naked protesters are easy enough to ape, and the costume is cheap. At most you have to spring for some ketchup to use as fake blood, and you don't even have to get the expensive organic kind, unless you expect someone to be licking it off later.

Sarah Palin is terrifying, the scariest thing to hit polar bears since ever. And what's sexier than Mother Nature, a la Angelina Jolie's recent fruitfulness? Or a sexy hobo, to help raise awareness around the issue of homelessness?

It's important to remember that this is a joyful, fun holiday. As with non-green costumes, who ever you decide to be, the "Sexy" version is best.

Showing a little skin doesn't contribute to global warming, although it might cause some physical rising, if you know what I mean!

In the gallery, check out our Sexy Green Costume ideas!

As many of you probably know, Neil Young shares in the American dream of driving big long fast cars with tail fins -- but he's also dedicated to environmental stewardship. That's why, instead of parting with his favorite '59 Lincoln Continental, he's taken it upon himself to give the car new life as an eco-friendly, electric-powered, classic vehicle named the Linc Volt. Now, Neil's announced that he plans for his 2 tons of Detroit steel to compete for the $10M X Prize.

Sponsored by Progressive Insurance, the automotive X Prize will be awarded to the first "production capable" vehicle that can go 100mpg while meeting at least Tier II Bin 5 emissions standards. Starting with a super-heavy Lincoln from the 50s, Neil is definitely fighting an uphill battle. If Neil's and company are able to pull it off with a '59 Continental, there should be no doubt that it can be done with smaller, lighter, more aerodynamic cars.

No word on what Young would do with the money, should he win.

Every once in a while I think I'm getting so green, and then I notice how much trash our house has created in just one week. Or I can't figure out if it's better to get the non-organic but local strawberries, or buy organic ones that were flown in from God-knows-where.

The people behind GoGreen Online know that most of us are willing to go more green, but we don't know where or how to start. So they created an online resource center, with all of the "hows" along with all of the "whys" for five important areas:

  • Energy
  • Water
  • Zero-waste
  • Transportation
  • Food

Even having the categories broken out like that makes me feel less overwhelmed. I can work with categories - compartmentalization is a busy person's friend!

It's just getting started - the site launched last week - but they hope to create a supportive and interactive community that bolsters the efforts of regular people to develop more eco-friendly practices.

Before you get bogged down in your next zero-waste attempt, or if you just wonder how the heck anyone can actually achieve zero-waste, visit GoGreen Online.

I bet you'll be pleasantly surprised to find out that a) you're not alone, and b) it's easier than you think, and c) there are lots of small changes you can make that will have a big impact!

As their Arctic habitat continues to collapse, polar bear hunting isn't exactly a sport that's on the up and up. Animal themed decor, however, continues to be a hot trend in the interior design community. So, how do you get your hands on a bear skin rug without contributing to the extinction of bear populations? French designer Lise Lefebvre has come up with a twist on the bear skin rug that even the staunchest PETA supporter couldn't complain about.

To make her eco-friendly bear skin rugs, Lise takes old wool blankets and sews in a fake bear snout. Apparently, tons of people are ditching the scratchy Dutch blankets at the thrift stores in favor of modern comforters. Therefore, Lise is recycling (upcycling?) these relics as guilt free floor coverings. Cool. I wonder where she gets those bear snouts?

When it comes to design, I'm not sure I like these as much as a real bear-skin rug -- but really, how many houses have a motif going that can truly accommodate a dead bear pelt? I could kinda see this working in a condo or a green prefab house.
